Official merger
On the 1st January 2004 the separate Wirral Branch and Chester
Branch merged into the new Wirral and Chester Branch.
The branch now provides facilities down the 'North-West backbone'
covering the Wirral, Ellesmere Port and Chester areas. The merger
of the previously two financially sound individual branches
has resulted in a stronger single branch and now offers rehoming
opportunities via the Animal Centre in Wallasey, Wirral and
Barra Boarding Kennels in Saughall, Chester.
We also have a Clinic
in Birkenhead, a charity
shop in Chester (run by volunteers) and a
pet shop
at the Wirral Animal Centre, Wallasey. The Charity shop in Chester,
with the help of volunteers, raises over £25,000 each
year which helps towards running costs. The clinic in Birkenhead
is for people in receipt of benefits. On average, we treat over
3,600 animals each year. For more information about us or about
how you can help please contact
us.

Centre History
The Wirral Animal Centre, Cross Lane Wallasey has been open
since the 40’s.The Centre has undergone major refurbishments
and can now cater for different types of animals including dogs,
cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
The centre is self- financing and has to raise it’s own
money to cover running costs.
The Animal Centre is licensed by the RSPCA to home at any one
time 36 dogs and 54 cats. Whilst we will look to take in stray
cats or animals that need rehoming we are not licensed or empowered
to take in stray dogs. We also have an all year round dog exercise
area, and a socialization area where prospective owners can
meet and greet their new pets.
Since the Centre re-opened, we have re-homed over 2500 animals,
including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and a few birds.

as

|
Barra Boarding Kennels provides additional
rehoming opportunities for the Chester area by offering 4 kennels
and 17 cat pens for the Branches use in helping to re-home unwanted
pets.
